it's an issue of interpreting who/what spamton was meant to represent in his little story.
spamton is clearly a surface-level mirror of mettaton/mad dummy and has him insert his spirit into the [battle-ready body]] like a ghost would, but was that only done for ease of communicating a concept like soul transfer/possession? does spamton actually represent a completely different character deep down, like a mystery character or even kris?
it could be a story of the knight's artificial body being stolen and possessed by a blook. it could be a story of kris stealing the vessel or even the soul, and becoming our protagonist.
