play DS1 first
Ideally pirate PTDE and get DSFIX (and mouse input costumizer if necessary which includes a necessary fix for the sens to not be horrendous), that will be the ideal first playthrough. You can either play at 60fps and remember to turn it off whenever going down certain ladders or the most huge long jumps, or you can just be lazy and play it on 30fps all the way through. Get a keybind for it if you do the former
Alternatively just play Remastered, its not as pretty but its still good, but play offline: save-ruining hackers are common these days
Play DS2 SOTFS afterwards, its great out of the box.
But if youre on keyboard and mouse, remember to turn off the "Disable double clicks" setting *every time* you boot up the game, or else you will have horrible input delay. For some reason it needs to be turned on and off whenever you launch the game for it to have an effect
The multiplayer has held up way better and its nice even in current day PVP and coop alike, but you should periodically backup your save just in case some exploiter fucks it up which is unlikely
Then play DS3 afterwards, i think nobody really cares about DS3 online these days and its just a more generic railroaded action game compared to the others so i think it plays better offline

>is a dark souls character
ok thats an exageration
like yeah you might be a souls guy, but you have extremely powerful jumps, ds3 rolls, extremely busted weapon skills and more cool gear around...
Even ignoring the gay summon bullshit, its a game where youre meant to fight power with power. It has much longer runtime, much more ways to get powerful and more sources of fancy cool mechanics and moves and weapons.
And thats the real flaw with Elden Ring: LUCK, route, loot, all that shit. Someone might have the intended ER experience of finding a ton of cool gear over the course of their playthrough, evolve beyond just being a generic souls guy and have it hold up for 100+ hours. Or instead you might end up going 40-50hours playing as just a slightly faster generic Dark Souls character, just endlessly roll and poke/slash bosses at their recoveries, find no interesting spells and tricks for the fantasy you were aiming for, and ultimately get bored to death and probably drop the game
