WOTLK was the last good expac, and even that was showing cracks all over the place. Cata and beyond are unsalvageable garbage.

Serfs had a bit more attachment to the land than that in many cases, even if it wasn't "ownership." Some serfs might be "bound to the land" in a way that means the lord can't revoke their renter status. But even that state was not something the gentry/lord/king were going to let Jews get into.

The Christian logic on this was interestingly Jewish in nature. Jews aren't allowed to change money or do any kind of "work" in a temple. When Jesus drives the moneychangers from the Court of the Gentiles, he's driving out Gentiles because Jews decided that rules which apply to them don't apply to goyim; goyim can change money in the temple. Jesus disagrees since he's about the spirit of the law, not the letter. But ironically Christians just did the inverse with lending a few centuries later; they inherited the rule that lending is wrong, but decided that since Jews aren't Christian it wouldn't apply to them. So they effectively created Courts of the Jew for Jews to charge interest in.
People will fight and die for their religion's name, but will cheat any way they can think of to avoid its rules.
