I went there several years ago (dad had to go there for 2 weeks on business and we could tag along for free) and the absurd lack of care those people have for themselves and others is astounding. Absolutely everywhere you went they were just dumping garbage all over the place, neglected stray dogs in every single street, hungry children with no parents in site coming up begging constantly and the guide we were with would just swing a stick to chase them off, like that is a normal thing to do in response. They have no concept of empathy at all, all over the outskirts and backroads there are these old shrines set up where they tied up cows as some part of religious ceremony and then just abandoned them afterwards, there's cow carcasses half eaten by whatever wildlife got to them or after they starved to death all over the place. Even the beings they claim to venerate and worship they don't give a shit about the moment the social obligation of paying tribute is over. It's legitimately like a nation of people with the average IQ of a 6 year old.

I've been rewatching X-Files and it's reminded me of how incredible the 80's-90's were in general. Such bright and hopeful eras. I miss it.
