Well if you can't really change the hardware anymore at that point? Then I would say:
>Try to get more third-party devs to support the GC
>Don't sell Rareware, they wanted to make games such as Banjo Threeie, Donkey Kong Racing, Conker's Other Bad Day, Kameo:Elements of Power, Perfect Dark Zero, Velvet Dark (Perfect Dark spin-off) and Grabbed by the Ghoulies
>Bring out and improved controller at some point
>Try to get more games to support online capabilities, like Melee, F-Zero GX or Mario Kart with online multiplayer
>Change the default color to something cooler like black, white or silver
>Don't let the GC get a kiddie-image
>More Pokemon games
>Make Wind Waker seem more mature by not choosing for Toon Link but pic related
>More JRPGs
>More FPS/TPS games
>GTA games
I think they could have gotten the 2nd place, after the PS2, in the 6th gen console race.
BTW that mini-DVD format was also a huge bottleneck but nothing you can do at that point.

>There is no force on earth that could have converted a nintendo kid in the 2000s. Obviously we wanted xbox and sony too but nintendo was not lame to anyone but fat quake guys like the comic book guy on the simpsons
Cope, sneedsons fan. PS2 bought off a lot of my childhood goodwill and news about Wind Waker turned me off to Nintendo forever. N64 was where my interest in the company ended.

What people should be mentioning in this thread is the Space World 2000 tech demo. Yes, it was a tech demo. No, it was never claimed in any credible magazines that it was the future of Zelda on Nintendo 128 or Dolphin or whatever we were calling it at the time.
BUT
this should never, ever have been shown publicly. If it needed to be presented, photos of this should not have been provided to journos. It simply gave fans of the series very high expectations that Wind Waker and its visual style simply dropped a coil of shit upon. Doesn't matter how good the game turned out to be or well it tied into the "Zelda timeline". I firmly believe Nintendo made five billion dollars in some 2000s operating year that could've been eight billion, whatever, because the Space World 2000 tech demo was so different from Wind Waker. It's one of the dumbest, most idiotic mistakes they ever made. Right up there with Iwata insisting on cartridges for N64.

They did openly state that was a tech demo, and specifically not a preview; what people may have inferred is a different matter.

It's funny though how these "cool" visuals had already aged horribly by the time Celda was announced and shit hit the entitled consumer fan. Regardless of what you think of the look, Wind Waker looks now exactly as good or bad as it did back then. The look was consciously planned and perfectly realized; it merely backfired horribly because of Nintendo yet again overestimating their audience.
