How is FFXI? At this point I'm willing to try something "older" to scratch the itch, FFXIV isn't for me anymore. I saw FFXI Dragoon even has a pet dragon companion, that shit would have been so cool to have in FFXIV too.

Honestly the whole expansion was a disaster, narratively speaking. It's clear as day Hiroi never once wrote a long cohesive story, just short class quests. His characters have the same depth of a rain puddle, his pacing is terrible, he tries to elicit strong emotions in the players, but always fails at doing so. The new localization team made things even worse, since the dialogues aren't just intrinsically stupid, they've also been translated like shit. Say what you want about Ishikawa and Koji-Fox, but they at least knew how to write and carry a message across. It's no wonder the gatherer quests she worked on for DT were better received than the MQS.
