I am a big fan of the single player FFs but the only mmo i wasted my time was osrs.

Just play the free trial, its the base game + 2 expansions for free, It's already 100 hours+ of the "main story".
There is an extremely high chance you get filtered by the base game, not because of difficult or anything, just boredom.

Bard is good if you're playing healer, but mostly yeah. Monk is extremely powerful the whole way through but Kick can be hard to keep uptime on during mechanics. Either way level all your starter jobs for the bonus movement speed on Knight and exp on Bard.

Try to at least make it to HW, if that doesn't get you in then drop it

The game always had major issues that people looked away from because the story was so compelling. The shitty story in Dawntrail simply pulled the veil away and now everyone has noticed just how much of the game needs to be fixed. The story WAS the most important part of the game, but because of Dawntrail it's probably now the least important thing to the playerbase. The game has major problems that have to be addressed if it doesn't want to head toward maintenance mode.

Going thru ARR for the first time and it's really boring. Nothing interesting happens and the missions all stink. They love to give you one objective all the way across the map, heavily incentivizing you to teleport around and ignore the "world" and then you just kill 2 enemies and then have to go ALL the way back to turn it in. The world is so shallow and empty that they just push you to teleporting around and it fucking blows. The game sucks.

Forked Tower's mechanics are really very simple but the problem comes from two things

It's really unrealistic to bring randoms in and expect them to coordinate themselves to the towers on Demon Brick, or to get the wild charges on snowballs properly, or to not aim a fire protean across the room at the other team. Compared to Baldesion Arsenal where 95% of the mechanics are halfroom cleaves or spreads/stacks. The only thing that a shitter can murder your run on are the accel bombs in Ozma. And then in CLL, DR, or Dalriada there are no raise restrictions so even though fights like Adrammalech can get very chaotic for a shitter you can still just pick them right back up and keep on trucking.

I've been playing this game for over 10 years. If you don't plan on making friends and shit don't even bother. You're are going to get bored and most likely stop playing within the first 100 hours for various reasons. The story has its ups and downs but it's a story that spans over the course of 10 years so that's completely understandable in my opinion. I'd say the first arc (A Realm Reborn through Endwalker) is worth a watch at least. So just honestly watch the story on youtube.

But this is exactly what makes it so confusing that people liked it. They completely waste the best buildup they're ever going to have. Estinien, Ysayle, and Alphinaud make for a fucking awful party because they all have the exact same personality - serious and brooding. Which is identical to the WoL's personality, incidentally, so you just have four of the exact same quiet broody character on an "adventure" of about two maps.

Again, I think that's why the blessed thing about the story is that it's short. You just go somewhere for a bit, do a thing, and then hype shit happens. There's no buildup or complex story beats to botch, just go to the library and when you get back the house is on fire.

Based take honestly, though I think that even if you remove them design would still be stifled from the perspective of true endgame, aka the ultimate fights (savage fights are still too easy to matter).

Since ultimate fights are segmented into multiple dps checks to ensure that you can't get by without pressing your buttons in a competent manner, a job's burst phase would significantly affect its viability in week one prog. For instance the old school warrior job with a 90 second burst wouldn't make the cut because it would frequently not contribute to dps checks compared to a 60 second job. We'd get a meta dominated by one minute jobs since they are certain performers.

With that said I still think they should go back to the design paradigm of *no significabt burst window* (shb pld and blm), one minute bursts (nin), 90 second bursts (war), two minute bursts (drk), third minute bursts (drg). It was still giving use a more intentional use of rotations and players actually being rewarded for knowing multiple, fight specific openers, which just improved player engagement, mastery and self-expression (on pld, sometimes you could pick between two openers that had their individual pro and cons. Great design).

Party buffs in this sort of environment alsp rewards players who had expendable resources. For instance the warrior who knew when to spend surpluss fury so it hit inside a two minute buff that was disaligned with inner release.

Unfortunately, realistically speaking there are many obstacles to this kind of general design philosophy improvement:

It's not just "one modernslop" set, they have been adding sets like that since 7.0 and it's honestly getting boring. They pretty much look all the same, with the same neon colors, big shoes, and headphones hanging around the neck. They look incredibly out of place in any map that isn't Solution Nine and its surroundings, and they are even a big spoiler flag for newcomers, just like the Convocation and Ascian-like robes were.
