Hell makes more sense if its viewed as the abscence of good. If God is perfectly good and encapsulates all good and holy things we appriciate (life,nature,creation,order, love etc...) Rejecting all aspects of God, ie that includes letting our hearts decide for us, doing what we truly want then makes you incompatible with God, something imperfect cannot exist in a perfect world, just like a blought of darkness cannot exist in the light. Therefore that puts you in... hell.
Many people struggle to accept that we do more evil than we think we do, but if we were worthy of heaven, we would never be reflecting about our lives in the middle of the night, we wouldn't have regrets and so forth. Existing iss horrifying, and I often struggle to find the value in being created in the first place, to know heaven and hell, pain and joy etc... But my assumption that the goodness, or who God is is so necessary to be seen, that we had to be created. Like it would be a sin to not see and know what is good in this existance. Thats my idea however, thats never mentioned anywhere in the bible so dont judge christianity on that.
