No, the Gauls, Germanics, Hellens, Etruscans and Phoenicians dont exist anymore. Neither do the Romans. If we didnt have the memory then all what remains are a bunch of ruins. These things are so distant to anybody alive today, or even 500 years ago, that it just doesnt hit a nerve anymore. On the other hand the people the Ottomans tyrannized and slaughtered do still exist. Its kind of a selective memory though because Turks got punched in the face hard themselves numerous times by the Balkanoids and Arabs. I remember a story from the first Balkan War where a Bulgarian soldier cut open a pregnant Turk, impaled the baby and showed it to the father, "here is your child, Turk" but when the Turks punched back they didndu nuffin man. It is what it is.
I think the Ottomans upset people because while Romes weird, creepy slave society fit right in with the rest of antiquity, the Ottomans weird, creepy slave society was totally anachronistic so they were just a bunch of backwards savages abducting men women and children to be worked to death or raped as slaves while Europe moved past that already.
