Men have never cared much about institutional religion and theology. Men are naturally connected to the spiritual world; women are not. Institutional religion has always been aimed at providing structure for women and confining their disordered sexuality in a manner that benefits society (or at least does not destroy it). Like building a sturdy hearth and fireplace to safely warm the home. It gives women a purpose and focus as she helps her man in life and raises his children. Like fire, a female's chaotic moods and passions must be harnessed to constructive purposes. Clear religious belief & practice gives women the guidance they crave; it makes them feel they have a clear mission and purpose given by GOD (with whom they feel a privileged connection), and not their husbands (b/c that would be oppressive). Christianity used to serve that role, but no longer. At this moment, there is only Islam that can replace that; that is why women are attracted to it. Women need to be guided, but will not accept it from their husbands; but only from: "GOD." So, regardless of how men feel about Islam theologically speaking; I think there can be no argument that for Western women, Islam (in a new-agey, itchy-ears, sort of way) may be the way e can re-establish order in our societies. This is not a religious or theological argument about right or wrong, merely an anthropological argument about what works and what doesn't. As Deng Xiao Ping said, it does not matter if the cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice.
