This moment feels way too overt, like the writers were lacking self-awareness. There needs to be some tonal awareness with these things. Trying execute a specific tone in a way that comes off as lacking self-awareness. Also badly. Self-awareness in the sense of "we should probably treat this serious moment with subtlety and in an understated manner because there's a bunch of cartoon mascots on screen", which is how you avoid moments like pic related. Or something like the laughingstock that Sonic has been for like 20 years.
