NIGGER
DO YOU OPTIMIZE THE CPU?
NO YOU DON'T.
You have a circle of control, and a set of specifications. Make a game within those specifications. If you can make Factorio with shit optimization but passable framerate by all means. If you can make Doom run on a toaster do it.
But you should not care about performance as a hobbyist especially when you clearly do not have a grasp on what's expensive.
>internet
It took 1.2 seconds for this page to run. Your 2007 windows 7 thinkpad runs billions in a second. There are IF statements in the internet call/request/response process
>disk
Reading from the disc takes a while. To see it, delete your porn directory. In the space to delete it (10 seconds give or take) more if statements than there are bots on /v/ would have run. There are IF statements in the deletion process.
>ram
Chrome taking up all your ram so you can hear someone call you a nigger on the internet is slow but not as much as it is to disc/internet (that's why you see loading screens: they're taking all that crap and putting it on the memory sticks to get it ready). If you were to load say, your favorite blender model, then every pixel on her body would have ran an if/else statement to render.
>CPU
Blazey fast. One of their main jobs, is if elses. https://ee.usc.edu/~redekopp/cs356/slides/CS356Unit5_x86_Control, they are designed to handle conditionals easily.

I say all of this because programming is trade offs and knowing what the problem is. To know the trade offs, you need to know WHAT they are, especially when it comes to performance. In the big boy's world we don't talk about if elses, we talk about Jeff loading the entire table and not projecting anything or Rob's infinite recursion bug in his APR calculation.
