Whatever Kris' endgame is, they consider it so important that they're willing to let us do heinous shit because the risk of fucking it all up by tearing us out of them in front of a witness isn't worth it. And they hate it. I'm sure they realize kicking us around wasn't doing anything; it was just self harm.

> What do (You) think?
This is Kris standing in your way and trying to stop you from doing things right. Obviously, he's the jerk in this situation, and his actions are meant to harm you.
It’s been known for a long time that he hides his skills and items.

> I think people will stop clinging to Noelle for dear life if there was other ways to make the characters aware of, and interact with, (You) specifically.
Agreed, we need more direct interaction between the player and characters. The couch scene is so memorable precisely because you, as the player, get to talk directly with the character, and that character acknowledges it. They see you as a chthonic eldritch horror, and they're right.
Such moments are pretty rare in games.
