Now actually I'm saying he's a well-written character because he's mindbroken. Part 1 is one of the greatest mangas of all time, Denji's character being a major factor in it (and also the irredeemably evil Makima who did NOT want to save the world).
Part 2's problems are very much outside of Denji's character. Nayuta being a shitty comedic relief plot-stalling useless asspulling character, Aquarium being recycled Eternity, everything about the convoluted Church arc, Yuko being a boring antagonist, etc.
