And what makes it even worse? He doesn’t care. There’s no soul-crushing guilt, no introspection, nothing. Just him wallowing in his own filth, chasing after whatever fleeting dopamine hit will momentarily distract him from the fact that he is, fundamentally, a waste of oxygen. There are cockroaches with more of a sense of responsibility than this guy. If you gave a literal tapeworm the ability to talk, it would still have more empathy and self-awareness than Denji.

This revolting, fungus-infested waste of skin has no morals, no integrity, and not even the most basic concept of what it means to be a decent human being. He is the villain of his own story, and only brings misery to himself and everyone around him. Denji deserves every single ounce of suffering that comes his way. When he finally meets his inevitable, gruesome end, it won’t be a tragedy. It won’t be sad. It will be justice.

When you abandon the one person who actually needed you, just so you could chase your own pathetic, brainless urges, you are not a victim. You are not misunderstood. You are beyond redemption.

The beauty of Denji's character is his innate relatability, whether you be an office worker, a NEET, or anything in between, men of all stripes and backgrounds can find a piece of themselves in him. Particularly in his reflection of psychosexuality that all men can relate to in some fashion.

Though we do not see his mother, we see that he gravitates towards maternal figures such as Makima, and sexualizes them as not only an object of desire but a fetish of comfort. Of belonging, of reason, and, mainly, one of purpose. She is the guiding star he follows and looks to her to educate him in all things, least of all matters of a sexual nature. For she is, for all intents and purposes, his mother. And a mother teaches her child many things.

This relationship hearkens back to the psychoanalysis of Freud, as I'm sure scholars are like to have already picked up on. As I'm sure students of his already know, boys look to their mothers for their first taste of sexuality as it is their primary female source to draw from.

A boy's friendships and infatuations with unrelated girls are superfluous, fleeting. But one's relationship with his mother is eternal; bound by fate. The beauty of Chainsaw Man is the perfect representation of this Oedipus Complex manifest. Even in Part 2, he cannot escape his mother. Watch and see, for she will not leave him, in body or memory.

Part 2 has failed to deliver the quality of the second half of part 1. Without that level of storytelling we are not getting the hype back for the manga.

I personally think Mappa will end the anime after successfully adapting part 1. Part 2 has seen a massive decline in sales. An anime for part 2 just wouldn't be financially successful in my opinion.
