Its both Dess and someone else. So like a partially revived lightner who became a darkner(like gerson) being wielded by an actual lightner. I think its safe to assume the revival was only a partial success, hence why the holidays and kris are collecting sacrifices. It also explains why their demeanor comes across as a bit schizo, in chapter 3 they seem to be weeping/sad but in chapter 4 they're a smug dickhead.
