I don't think they had to do that, it's not like Shun was the major cause of Miyazawa's descent but he still had a connection to him anyway. I can see a world where the main reason Kiuchi's career flopped was just an actual injury that caused him to miss some vital scouting event or something, so to try salvaging it he tried doing some stuff for good PR and then the whole Motoha thing happens and it's just the straw that breaks the camel's back rather than the actual inciting incident. There's lots of ways for Kiuchi to land really well while still connecting Motoha to him that would read better than a guy crashing out for several months straight because he got btfo by a child at a charity event.

Turns out the bad part about a pretty fun P5 spinoff being gacha shit isn't the actual gacha mechanics but the fact that talking about it online requires me to read posts by gachafags.
