Be honest, what makes a good Mega Evolution design?

If they did start making new megas every gen like how they regularly make new regional forms, that could help fix the problem that they like to give already strong pokemon megas.
I'm much more interested in seeing shitmons become viable like Mawile, not pseudo legendaries getting even stronger.
According to the ZA leaks it does look like they're mainly giving megas to non-powerful pokemon though the gen 1 bias really does get tiring. At least they're making up for gen 5 having one singular mega
