It didn't deserve to, but it was always destined to just by being a Fatal Fury game. Bad combo of people not caring about the IP since it's been so long since the last game and people not willing to even give the game a chance due to SNK's recent history of fighting games not having high populations, I calling that that the game was going to be a self-fulfilling prophecy months before it came out because people were already calling it a discord fighter then.
Also you had the Saudi and Ronaldo stuff which caused content creators and places like Reddit to turn on the game and pray for its failure.
If Tekken or SF did the exact same thing, they'd still sell millions tho.
