KPDH sounds like it would be a wacky concept too, but it's actually really grounded. All it took was the synopsis at the start of the movie and I was on board.
Music igniting the souls of the audience and focusing that power on the musicians is a cool concept, and it's only a short step from "play music to drive away evil spirits" which is common in religion.
And the Huntrix weapons are ceremonial tools related to korean shamanism. When you understand the background it makes perfect sense how the demon hunters turned into pop stars in the modern era.

Meanwhile Symphogear had weird mech transformations which seems totally out of step with any sort of mystical connection with the audience or the power of song.

Imagine if you applied that standard to other movies.
Nobody expects you to care about Hawaii to watch Moana or Lilo and Stitch.
You can enjoy Toy Story even if you haven't played with toys since you were 7.
