It makes 0 sense game journos attack gamers until you realize the audience is the product. Then you see how many of these journos are sleeping with people in game development for good reviews.
This problem is far and wide. These narcissists (at least the ones without major attention and funding like Sarkisian) are willing to fuck nerds for access to work, training, networking, and exposure (like Zoe quinn).
But it isn't just them.
Remember professional booth babes? Say what you want about being irrelevant to the product, but they weren't fucking the devs or con goers. They were professional models paid professional rates.
But when "professional cosplayers" demanded they go, and cons saw the "cosplayers" as free labor... those girls started fucking their way through devs and you started seeing pretty stupid whores become shit like "community managers" or "social media".
and Don't get me started on the drama and switch to full volunteer staff for cons and how they leverage their free labor to impose their will and beliefs on everyone.
You know that meme of a girl joining a hobby that is all passionate guys, then it all becomes focused on hookups/drama and the hobby goes to shit for it?
What that meme doesn't cover is the after part of this process:
