I do agree that her flaws make her easier to sympathize with, even though she is clearly very scummy and evil. Makima was driven by cold logic for the most part while Yoru is driven by impulsiveness and at times ignorance. Funny thing is she's kind of set up like a Shonen protagonist with her obsession with being the strongest and her desire to avenge her "nakamas".
That's where Fuji runs the risk of losing sympathy on Asa. If you gave Yoru an elaborate backstory, POV moments and some trauma flashbacks, she'd cease to be an antagonistic force and basically just become the "cooler" Asa.

In every scenario it's always the others who have to make the hard decisions to survive while Asa sits her fat ass on a moral high horse. I simply don't see the appeal of this type of a "good girl".
She'd be long gone on her own and the world would be no better for it because her powers are clearly needed to avert the apocalypse. She ought to start acting like it. Get her hands dirty, make the hard decisions, instead of leaving them all up to Yoru or Denji who have to do fucked up shit like eating the tree cucks to save Asa's fat ass along with 10,000 orphans like herself.
She is boring because her goody two shoes morality is barely ever put to the test. It never wins the day. It's never practical.
Anything bad happens? Blame Yoru for it.
Need to solve a moral dilemma? Let Denji handle it.
Need a villain like Falling to be killed? Demand Denji and Yoru to kill her because "we are heroes" while disappearing into the wind.
