I know times are tough right now but I say this from Canada, starting a business in the states is far, far better for the average joe than it is for an average Joe in a European/Canadian economy.
Unless you're a blue blood or on a first name basis with the local government starting a business is a crapshoot.
It's fucking ridiculous how much they tax you for bullshit that doesn't exist. Even successful businesses are barely skirting by.
Which is why euros and Canadians will walk down 5 different streets and see the same fucking businesses repeated because there is no competition for small local businesses to take a risk on a venture. We just get more tim.hoetons, Walmart's and McDonald's on every street.
Meanwhile I can drive around for hours in California and I never see the same business repeated.
The health of competitive businesses can be measured by how frequently you can find multiple McDonald's. If you have a lot of McDonald's in a small area then that's an unhealthy economy where local businesses can't thrive. If you see a single McDonald's in a 50 mile radius then that's a very healthy economy that I have only seen in America.
