it's the electrical gremlins, a new fuse gives me a few meters until it cuts off again
took out all the fuses except for the main and it still cuts so I'm guessing it's something not related to lighting

That does put the "rainbow road appears after a long absence" thing in world in new context. A new original rainbow road didn't magically manifest itself in 8 so they had to make one themselves.
