Been doing the AA thing for about 6 years. I don't agree with everything I've heard from them, but not once have i heard any of them say "Life is nothing but rainbows and unicorns without booze." They'll tell you that life is better without it, because for them it is. All of the bullshit problems that come with being a drunk (legal issues, financial insecurity, domestic chaos) largely disappear when you stop being a drunk. Who would have guessed....

Life is still hard, but I am more capable of dealing with life's problems without alcohol. Go to a meeting OP. Yes, it's a cult, but you're literally killing yourself right now. Can't get that much worse, can it?

I struggled with these ideas myself. Born hydrocephalic, so I spent a lot of time in children's hospitals. I was relatively lucky - no major cognitive impairment - but others were not. As I got older, the only way I was able to rationalize their suffering with the concept of a just God was to accept that everything is temporary. Yeah, they had a tough turn this time around. But maybe they learned something from it that they can carry forward. Either way, it's inconsequential when you contemplate eternity.
I think we're just here to grow, man. Hope tomorrow is a better day for you.
