He was a reactionary and that's the end of it, a right-wing conservative with a relatively basic view of the world but no further transcendental vision. Great general, good at organizing and reconstructing society post civil war, but he left no legacy because he had no ideology and no vision, his intellectual depth was very liberal, not a fascist at all, and in fact seemed to embrace western liberalism and democracy at the end of his days. His own sense of pragmatism and his relaxed nature softened his "dictatorship" to the point that from the 60's onwards it was almost like any other western liberal democracy just with a single ruler, it was genuinely a very free country. Any trace of fascism or falangism was excised in the 50's.
In many ways he was just a right-wing liberal conservative who found himself having to ally with fascists just to defeat the red terror and has been unfairly vilified by history because of it. The hate boner that the left still has with him is absolutely ridiculous, especially considering how soft he was with them after all their crimes.
