Wanna know what I got hooked on (physical addiction) just totally out of the blue? It's a completely legal nasal spray sold under brand name Afrin that contains oxymetazoline hydrochloride. You don't get addicted to the chemical, but its effect. The effect is that Afrin constricts blood vessels in your nose thus allowing you to quickly start breathing freely if you're e.g. suffering from allergies.
The "snapback" however is brutal and you feel like you're suffocating with your nose completely "clogged". So you keep "doing" more and more Afrin to alleviate this. I realized fairly quick something was wrong and started doing research. Discovered the complete rabbithole of people being "Afrin junkies" for many years and getting panick attacks if they are ever without their "hit".
Quit cold turkey next day and suffered through the withdrawals. Sucked shit but I'm never touching that fucking totaly legal over the counter medicine again.
