lack of any frontiers that are accessible in any real sense.. we need to get to space, and we need to get to space in fashion that would allow the average man to save up money for a few years to get out there, or easy enough to go on some 'high-risk' settlement or something that would allow average men to go.
another aspect is the ease of access to pretty much everywhere in the world via the internet, and globalism in general.. there is a sameness throughout all cultures being driven by market forces mostly. subcultures within a society are vanishing, and cultures in other societies are becoming less distinguishable and interesting
