>Shitposting aside there's literally no reason to play Engage until you have a few other games under your belt because the gimmick of the game is being a series-wide crossover. You'll likely get nothing out of it if you play it with limited FE experience, hence its controversial reputation.
Also it's hard to dispute the idea that it doesn't have the worst cast, story and writing in the series. It constantly bounces between trying to be funny and not actually being funny, and trying to be serious but being so hamfisted it ends up funny.
