Oh it can be used for a lot more, building large complex machines requires moving lots of large heavy parts and I can see Peridot's metal powers being really useful here

Peridot should have joined the main cast as soon as she became a crystal gem. Getting barned with worst gem robbed her of that and it's absolutely criminal that even after the barn the crew decided not to let her use her powers to their true potential or even build stuff like she used to except for the new robonoids in the movie
