Nah, you're talking about noisy DVD rips, AV1 works better than H264 even at low resolutions and that's before you even take 10-bit into account.

Even with noisy DVDs we got AFGS1 last year so AV1 is better than H264 in like 90% of videos now. The only exceptions might be stuff like the duck take off and crowd run videos.

You don't even need a computer to encode it anymore. It's so fast that you can compress AV1 video on your FFFucking telephone.
