Nah, you're talking about noisy DVD rips, AV1 works better than H264 even at low resolutions and that's before you even take 10-bit into account.

Even with noisy DVDs we got AFGS1 last year so AV1 is better than H264 in like 90% of videos now. The only exceptions might be stuff like the duck take off and crowd run videos.

Above VMAF 95 less than 10% of humans can make any differentiations of the source and lossy encode at all and that's with like a 95% confidence. That's good enough for me.

It's only the grain chasers VMAF will never satiate but they themselves know that without 100 Mbps you can't preserve grain perfectly so most aren't even going to bother with lossy encodes anyway.

If you really cared about quality you would break into hollywood and steal the original film reels and then blow your brains out when you noticed how much they rotted over the decades.

VVC doesn't even outperform AV1 until you reach 4K resolution and even then compared to preset 0 libaomav1 some people can't even tell the encodes apart and quality validation backs this up as well.

What is the best setup to do quality (vmaf, simulacra2) targeted encodes?
What is the better encoder for non-grainy videos between svt-av1, svt-av1-essentials, svt-av1-psyex, svt-av1-hdr?

Once my current encode is done in 20min im gonna try using these programs I have.

I really want something that can set a floor for a image metric and not go past it.

pic related is the last encode I did compared to the CRF 3 control video. (CRF 0 introduced artifacts)
