The Great Learning continued this week! I managed to rope a friend of mine who dropped out of 40k in 7e into the 3.0 game, we had a whacky time. Lots of take backs and rewinds were taken as we tried to separate out the 7e esoterica from the actual 3.0 rules.

I played a game of 3.0 against myself at the LGS today (the HH community in general is non-existent, meanwhile there were 3 40k games going at the same time).
Army A (710)
>Centurion with charnabal sabre, plasma pistol, vexilla
>10 tacs with power fist, combat vets
>rhino with combi-bolter, multimelta. dozer blades
>vanilla spartan (logistical benefit)
Army B (715)
>Centurion with chainaxe and power axe, paragon of battle
>10 tacs with charnabal sabre
>vanilla rhino
>land raider carrier with hull lascannons (logistical benefit)
>dreadnought with melta, gravis melta, and havoc launcher (war engine detachment)
The board was the 4'x6' standard and terrain was placed as instructed in the core rules. Both objective markers were placed in cover, with one in the dreaded medium terrain and another in a small patch of light terrain.
Deployment was Hammer & Anvil, and mission was Take and Hold.
This resulted in an awkward case of both armies just slamming a tac squad down on a defensible objective, while A's spartan and rhino and B's centurion in land raider, rhino, and dreadnought had the duty to kill each other's tacs.
I'm not sure if I misread at point or just rolled bad but the vehicle barely damaged each other; rhino A returned fire to shear off some HP from the spartan and then the next turn the spartan reaction fired it to death with lascannons.
The rules, despite the verbosity, often fail to mention things happening in sub-phases: If you rush you can't charge, but I only noticed it during the charge phase section. The challenges somehow managed to be whiffs as even invulnerables were made. The battle was called t3 with 11 vp for A vs B's 12, as a roll-off decided that the lone remaining tactical with the centurion did not constitute a "majority" and Line didn't apply. Then the centurion died after B's rhino and the land raider shot him in the face with all their guns.
AV14 feels like it'll be a problem.

Currently working on an AL centurion/vigilator/Exodus proxy, might try to slap a BA centurion together also.
