Most (healthy) men internalize their perception of self worth. They measure themselves against their accomplishments and past selves. Most women externalize their perception of self worth. If they came observe someone suffering then they cannot fathom their own status. That these men are not desirable to them means nothing, it's the fact that they can't watch them go through rejection that bothers them.
