For me there’s a direct line between the quality of a MTG crossover (in a vacuum) and how “real” the setting is. LOTR and Final Fantasy were the best ones because they’re fantasy settings completely divorced from reality, so if you pretend you don’t know the source material they could kind of be regular MTG planes. The Star Trek set might be OK. It’s not completely unrealistic, Earth exists, but the setting has far more weird shit than recognizable.
But the Ninja Turtles live in regular-ass New York City, a place that not only exists, but we just saw in the Spider-Man set.
