Mesoamerican history/archeology nerd here, I think it looks mostly really well researched
They did an excellent job with the architecture of Tenochtitlan, and while I think Poison Ivy and Catwoman's designs are kind of nonsense and I wish Moctezuma II's attire was more accurate; Yohualli/Bruce's design, Acatzin/Alfred, and Selene(?)'s domestic dress are very grounded to outright just 100% accurate, Yokka/Joker's design before becoming super Joker-y is also fairly on point for priests, and he gets more and more Tezcatlipoca attributes as he becomes jokerified, which makes sense given Tezcatlipoca as a god is all about causing disorder and fate's fickle nature. Compare the architecture and clothing in the trailer to pic related for example.
Something I'm both excited but also somewhat worried about is how it takes place in a timeline where Cortes fails initially: I was hoping this would lead to a premise where you could have Spanish officials worming their way into an otherwise mostly unconquered Aztec society and political system and you could those Spanish officials and corrupt Mesoamerican ones working together as the criminal underworld that Batman normally goes against, and so he could go after organized crime and the like rather then it being about resisting conquest/colonialism with huge stakes and open warfare
There's elements in the recent footage and interviews which suggests what I want is still a possibility, but there's also a lot of action scenes and what looks like straight up military battles in the trailers. Them potentially going with just a generic "fighting back as the Spanish try to conquer the region", and Catwoman and Ivy's designs would be my only big criticisms so far.... [cont next post]
