The point gain from sanma tonpuu is miniscule, and given that even the best players in the world struggle for stable Saint 1 performance in Jade sanma, it might be better to stick to hanchans and hope to luckshit your way out on a good streak, especially for you as Expert 2 is still positive on average.
That's my thinking, unless there's data out there saying sanma tonpuu takes less than half as long as hanchan games on average, making the former more efficient to grind.

I'm not even sure what my greatest weakness is anymore, as most of my losses don't seem to stem directly from bad riichi/dama.
My peak rating was less than 200 points from Saint, so I'm not just going to quit sanma on a whim.
I suji count, but I don't keep track of constant tsumogiri very well in regards to dama detection.
