This can be true if you've got a nice printer dialed in, but I think the CGL plastics are pretty nice. All the models I've painted here are CGL except for the one third from the right.
If you have a printer by all means go for it; there are a lot of cool mechs that don't have plastic minis yet and some mechs that have a lot more modern designs than the IWM ones (some of them never even got minis).

I dunno if mine is good looking, but good urban camo comes from color selection and "resolution" if that makes sense. Decide what kind of shapes you want to use to sell the idea of breaking up the look.
Mine are based on a cold-weather climate, so the prevailing white of snow makes a lot of sense. Compared to real camo the volumes will appear large, but that will just make them look better at table height (and be easier to paint frankly).

I tried my hand at panel lining my dudes, got through all the mediums well enough. Photo isn't great, but it's better than the one I deleted where i deep fried the fuckers.
Probably hit the lights all in one pass and then do my assaults and heavies together. It's a bit dramatic up close but it looks awesome from table height.
