Thread question: what's your favorite CV?
Post customs if applicable but no WAACshit
I like this only for the butthurt it caused newfags in HBS Battletech
>>95911899I love hovercraft in general, I don't know why they're just really cool to me.
The LTV-4 in particular has a neat looking design, it's basically a fast moving PPC platform. Like a CV Panther.
Iโm really looking forward to the new BT comics. I just hope theyโre good. I quite like the old comics that no one even remembers.
>>95911899Scorpion light tanks. Cheap, cheerful, and overlooked. Form a battery of them and you can be a real third in someone's side.
>>95911958>new BT comicsIs it all going to be Calarts?
298

๐
>>95911958>I just hope theyโre good.A comic, made by the company that's known to put no effort into its printed materials and pay nothing to have it made?
Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate.
The assassin is a wasp or stinger that moves 7//11/7. If you can't see the value of that in 2676, you're probably someone who primarily plays BV matched one off games.
>>95912091It bottom decrying it as a shitmech, but he's also a lorelet and, by his own words, only here to start trouble and degrade the general. Ignore him.
>>95911917I always thought they ought to have a proper name. Maybe "Korobeiniki", since there's a precedent for naming missile carriers after Russian folk songs.
>>95912091maybe in lore, but for most of us we start in intro tech 3025...
I think that a lot of complaints both on tt and in lore are valid, no i'm not a trip.
I actually said it could be a great spotter of sorts, if you play with alt ammo it's def not a head hunter but it can be fun and fill niches.
smoke and infernos a ML that zips around? Cool.
Who is doing battletech stuff tonight/this weekend?
>>95912117Hwacha would have been good if it wasn't already taken.
Since my schedule for this weekend is shaping up to be a little fucked I'm making this post earlier than normal. Time to decide on the end of month grudge match. If any other suggestions or things I've missed from previous threads feel free to submit them as ideas. Think for obvious reasons will try to avoid maps with more advanced terrain in future as Princess can't handle it.
Easy to setup - i.e. don't need to hunt down RAT's and can just use the table
>Lyrans vs Kurita - Operation GรTTERDรMMERUNG - using 3028 RAT
>Mariks/Canopians vs Liao or Mariks vs Mariks/Canopians - Andurien Crisis - using 3028 RAT
>Davion vs Kurita rematch - Possibly Fourth Succession War themed and using 3028 RAT this time?
>Battle Royale on Butte Hold - use either 3028 or 3039 RAT and its a giant free for all on a Butte Hold map - winner becomes BOSS OF THE BUTTE HOLD
>Unthemed House vs House fight using 3028 or 3039 RAT i.e. Mariks vs Kurita, Liao vs Steiner or even Canopians vs Taurians if want to do Periphery as well?
Harder to setup - i.e. need to find a suitable RAT
>Fedcom Civil War fight - Davions vs Steiner
>Blakist Choir vs Clan Nova - mechs and BA against each other (Manei Domei vs Clan slapfight)
>Blakists vs Society
>>95912091Its not a bad idea but it is very quickly obsolete.
>>95912110I think he's still butthurt as he was gunned down by an Assassin.
>>95912118Its not necessarily a bad militia style mech. Its also good at bullying 20 ton designs. Once you face anything heavier than the designs its meant to fight though it tends to get clapped.
>>95912334We had a silly match last time so something more serious? My vote's for one of these
>Lyrans vs Kurita - Operation GรTTERDรMMERUNG - using 3028 RAT>Mariks/Canopians vs Liao or Mariks vs Mariks/Canopians - Andurien Crisis - using 3028 RATDon't really mind which.
>>95912334Run shitmechs in their intended role. Like an Assassin and some tanks vs a buncha pirate lights.
>>95912117The lack of name has to do with how originally the missile carriers were fluffed as representatives of a "class" of vehicles that possessed similar capabilities built in various forms by various parties all over, much like the APCs. But that got changed by TRO 3039 for whatever reason.
>>95912334>>Lyrans vs Kurita - Operation GรTTERDรMMERUNG - using 3028 RATMien vote Oberfieldwebel
>>95911899The LGR Ontos is pretty sweet for what it does. It's like a pocket Alacorn, but doesn't get as much attention because it can't headcap. However, a pair of them flinging 6 shots every turn is great direct fire support softening up enemies for your brawlers, and the volume of fire and 16rpg let you take those marginal shots.
Anon who was complaining about bald spots here, thanks for the advice but I think the damage is already done on my first two attempts. Should I simple green them or keep them as trophies?
>>95912334Casting my vote for Andurien Crisis, Marik vs Marik/Canopians
>>95912945keep them so you can remember what it was like when you first started. those are totally acceptable for tabletop. good job! I like the orange.
>>95912334Butte hold FFA sounds hilarious
>>95912334Andurien Crisis sounds fun
>>95912117A lot of russian artillery are named after flowers now (since the late seventies iirc), Krysantima, Vasilek, Giatsint, Pion etc. Could be pretty easy to just run them through TL and use that.
>>95913080Thanks Though I cheated by using orange primer.
>>95912909I suppose those would match well with a normal Ontos, but for me it's the Fusion.
>>95913052>like the Orion, Ontos, LRM special munitions, SLDF designs, and the AchileusHuh, I guess I should just bite the bullet and add purple trim to my stuff, because I guess I've been a Purple Bird the whole time.
>>95912334I want nothing more than to beat down Anduriens.
>>95913199I think a 2-3:1 ratio of long range Ontos to Ontos classic works well (whether LRM or LGR, and whether the classic is Vanilla, fusion, or 3053). The classic usually has some LRMs to plink away, and has enough dice to dissuade fast mechs from trying to punt them - when they might not be as scared of a Demolisher, gambling that it has just two chances to hit vs the Ontos's 8+.
>>95912334Andurien or Marik Civil War please for the love of God let me roll on some different RATs
>>95912362He also shit on the Vulcan which is weird because he stole 4 kills with it
Kidnap smoke jaguar women as spoils of war and make them concubines
So what's the correct ratio of modern military autism, medieval military autism, and anime military autism for establishing a tone for a battletech campaign?
>>95913477>and make them concubinesAnon please, the Draconis Combine prefers the term comfort women.
>>95913435Well good for you! Those are genuinely well painted mechs. You did a good job with them.
Word of Blake/ComStar?
Here, let me post a sampling of mine to try and keep this trend going.
>>95911899Tokugawa. Decent loadout, fairly cheap and durable. It's like a bulldog+
>>95913477For a Jag freebirth, that would probably be an improvement in quality-of-life
>>95913477Make them wear nekosuits and serve at a maid cafe.
>>95913435How do people get such good panel lines any time I use a wash its so inconsistent with how dark the crevices get and I end up having to hunt down missing spots and with the exorbitant amount of greebles shimmy seems to love its a pain in the ass
>>95913477Couldn't pay me enough, the ethnic cleansing of the black panthers is one of the best parts of battletech lore.
>>95913940Probably used a pen to cheat.
What advanced armor is the best for vees?
>>95913862>Welcome to the the You Dare Refuse Our Cat-Chall Cafe, Master.
>>95913958>to cheatjesus christ
>>95913979I would say Heat-dissipating armor, but apparently you can't mount that on vehicles for whatever reason. If you could, it would be great since heat weapons are one of the big weaknesses of vehicles and they usually have plenty of tonnage to spare on armor.
>>95914099It seems like AMS and Armored Motive Systems do more for vehicles survivability than fancy armor. Doesn't ferro-lamellar specifically not stop motive crits?
>>95913435sick d00dz, post some close ups?
>>95913604rad. nice mercs
>>95913940OP here, I use a heavy nuln oil wash and touch up any spots with additional wash. If it just won't take, I'll use black paint and a fine brush and manually do the panel line.
>>95914258A selection of some of my favs.
>>95914236Welcome back, dalong.net
>>95912334Another old ye vote for old ye Andurien slaying.
Did they ever clarify the rules on Radical Heat Sinks? Like what happens if the system fails or if you get the heat sunk benefit on the turn it fails or if the movement heat penalty is cumulative?
>>95912945god there is just no painting or modeling technique that could make that annihilator not look abhorrent
>>95911899I have had incredible fun hot dropping jump infantry from these.
>>95914288That brings back memories did he finally stop?
>>95911899There's something extremely satisfying about ac/20-ing a guy in the back and then skidding into a hill the next turn and exploding.
>>95915073Battletech tanks got fat.
>>95913995>>Welcome to the the You Dare Refuse Our Cat-Chall Cafe, Master.>>95914288>Welcome back, dalong.netBut where is the pack of Cigarettes for scale?!
>>95915081>That brings back memories did he finally stop?Nope.
>>95912945I decided to put on a wash, but I feel it took out some of the vibrancy. Oops
>>95915183gotta armor up when facing mechs
Anyone know who would carry decent models for a crab mech?
They are my favorite 50 ton but my LGS never have any... not that the battletech scene is large here anyway but still.
>>95915183I used a cargo Pegasus as a utility vehicle in an RPG campaign, so I like the fat version more. The super sleek, ultra low profile art just doesn't look like something that could carry 12 tons of cargo.
>>95915221Pictures generally turn out better when the subject is facing the light source
>>95915241Ebay. Crabs are easy to get there its just however horrendous shipping is to your area.
>>95915170Good old suicide sled.
>>95915316Well it was sunny this morning, bow its cloudy.
>>95912334I vote for the andurien crisis, and that both sides are augmented by a lance of vehicles.
>>95915215>Welcome to the the You Dare Refuse Our Cat-Call Cafe, Master.A cat-call cafe of huge, muscled women of known libertine inclinations would be a pretty scary place, ngl.
>>95913538Watch Dougram, then Xabungle, then read Tigers in the Mud (the autobio, and then the manga).
Then play a full Campaign for North Africa.
You are now officially ready to run a campaign.
Speaking of Canopian Catgirls, look what I've got
>>95915587Fuck yeah bud. 9FC.
>>95915215>But where is the pack of Cigarettes for scale?!He wouldn't use a pack of ciggies, obviously.
>>95915598Honestly, the fraternization that Clanners do probably causes drama out of a high school theater group, but they'll never fix it because it's the Clan Way. Except maybe the Wolves, who adapted to the IS leadership style that "favoring the subordinates you're banging might not be good for morale". Only the Wolves can have this lightbulb moment, naturally.
>>95915587Currently painting one but have not used it yet
>>95915587I love this mobile siege engine I cant justify bringing in mydudes
>>95915915HE ALWAYS USES A PACK OF CIGS!
>>95915928Poverty&pride probably protect them. It also helps that they're super casual about sex. It's kinda hard to sleep your way up in an environment where everybody acts like they're on grindr.
>>95916275The motherfucker.
Shame that he didn't visit any of the other large scale gundam models.
>drift away from MW, still wanting pewpew but wanting something different
>get into Elite, where your appreciation of pretty lights is met with three dimensions of movement
>start looking at the ground combat
>realize there's no reason Elite couldn't/shouldn't have battlemechs
Vicious cycle.
>>95915587Love the nightstar.
4/6 erppc and double lbx10 nightstar is best star.
Bring the double barrelled shotgun.
>>95917288I bought it here
https://minifreemarket.com/catalog/games-with-miniatures/battletech/neko-canopus-masters-degree-pilot-35551
>>95917288I bought it here
https://minifreemarket.com/catalog/games-with-miniatures/battletech/neko-canopus-masters-degree-pilot-35551
>>95915928>Except maybe the Wolves,>"favoring the subordinates you're banging might not be good for morale"Lolwut?
>>95917514Clanners are massive fucksluts. They solved all health concerns related to having sex and developed a culture that places absolutely no special value on it. They'll fuck kids, siblings, subordinates, random civilians off the street, whoever. But no matter what they tell each other, they are technically still human and will develop feelings for people they fuck. This results in poor command cohesion.
>>95912130I'm finished up 4 bases of Elementals (honestly FUCK painting these little bastards) tonight, and playing a game with a buddy tomorrow afternoon. Not sure what scenario we'll do yet, but since he's new I've got a big handful of pre-built lances he can pick from depending on what he thinks sounds cool.
>>95915073I don't remember F-Zero having weapons
>>95913435Man, the panel lines on those look great. I need to take a stab at white sometime so I can add a ComStar force to my collection, and some Gamma Galaxy Snow Ravens to go with my Beta Galaxy guys. Iโve only got 30-something of them, they need some friends.
>>95911938LTV-4 release when?
Karnov model when?
I tell you, not soon enough.
>>95917712I have some acrylic ink and a nice pen for panel lining now, but I'm not sure if it would ruin my camo. I already hit them with tone.
Idea for a merc lane:
Kingfisher Prime
Marauder II 4A
Storm Giant 2
Bull Shark BSK-MAZ
>>95917830U havin a giggle?
>>95917837At the knowledge that many anons ITT will burst a vessel because this is full of "unicorns" and a "non-canon" mech? Yes.
But also I'm 100% dead serious. I'd have swapped the MAZ for a Rifleman III if I could have found a model for it that I liked though.
If you were going to play RAF remnants in the ilClan era, what kind of mechs or vehicles would you field? My play group has taken a recent interest in "current history" and is wanting to bump us up from the Dark Age. I like my RAF, they're my guys, I'm just not sure what would make sense to bring because the normal stuff wouldn't be as accessible after getting skullfucked by clan nonsense.
>>95917958>actually playing dark ageI do not have the words to describe my contempt/disgust.
>>95917958A lot of the RAF ditched out after Stone got got, and if MUL is anything to go by, a lot of them either sold off their toys to buy a one way ticket away from Wolf space, or became mercenaries themselves.
>>95917886You can put whatever you want on the board if your opponent will play with you.
If you put that on the table without previous agreement though I'm taking my bat and ball and going home.
>>95917971We all like having a larger selection of toys to play with
>>95917986Might go with the merc general tables then, thanks
>>95917997>my bat and ballI don't think we're playing the same game.
>>95918071No, bloat is a real thing, and validating the disgusting shitshow of clickytech is demeaning to the Battletech name on top of that.
>>95913940Have you tried oil paint pinwashing?
It's relatively foolproof and skill-agnostic. It does take multiple steps of preparation so its mild downsides are time spent and tedium.
>>95918154Clickytech was fun for what it was, scifi Mage Knight with a recognizable IP stapled to it. I think that's why they called it Mechwarrior instead of Battletech. I was huge into Mage Knight when clickytech came out and tried it on a whim when it launched because the store's MK judge was excited about it, I was like 11 at the time. I made the jump to Battletech years later when Weisman sold Wizkids to Topps and they canceled everything. Not saying it was a good Battletech game, but it is responsible for getting a whole slew of people into Battletech proper
>>95918220>but it is responsible for getting a whole slew of people into BattletechThat's a bad thing if all those people are fans of clickytech trash.
>>95918315Hey from what I've heard Mage Knight was a decent game, and we can't fault other players for the DEVS trying to force shit.
>>95918315What is it about the DA designs that you dislike?
>>95917541And I love it. I love how weird and alien the Clans are, and while I don't like my Green Birds going full retard under Malvina, I like how they have an alien value system that their own humanity sometimes can't square. Sometimes you get someone with half a conscience like Aiden Pryde, more often you get Malvina Hazen.
>>95918335It was interesting. It had alternating activations but not phases the way BT does, and you could move whole groups in a single activation if they were all touching, which was convenient. But it wasn't very well-balanced and you couldn't just get what you wanted, you had to buy randomized boosters, and there were three quality types for almost every unit. Higher quality meant higher points cost, but even so there basically weren't any low-quality units worth taking under any circumstances ever. It was fun but it wasn't great. I kept all the models and I've used them in D&D games before. Some of them like the bone golem were pretty decent, even as cheap pre-painted plastic.
I got into it with a bunch of friends and we just all gave each other the models for our chosen faction, so the randomness wasn't quite as terrible for me, but even as teenagers we thought the business model was exploitative. You were much more likely to get useful cards from a mtg booster than you were from a mage knight booster, and for less money. Which is saying something.
>>95918344The models and art all looked terrible until about 2016. Even in that environment, the dark age stuff is insultingly bad. Like bootleg 1980s toys from before plastic molding matured.
>>95918358>but even as teenagers we thought the business model was exploitative.Yeah, playing Gacha with physical Minis never sits well with me and it'd be even worse with in-game qualitative effects.
Cards have almost no overhead, but Minis take up space.
While I'm not against the Salvage Boxes since they're usually things you could get for sure in other sets, it is kind of annoying to only get one extra Vedette with a Sturmfeur...
Of course, being a construction toy autist as well, I appreciate Government pressure on "Blind bag/box" style distribution so that companies put SOME kind of identifiers on the package so you can find what you want if you know what to look for.
>>95914205>OP hereWhy lie about this?
https://files.catbox.moe/6phj9n.webm
>>95918344Look at the Tundra Wolf and tell me the designer didnt just alter one of his kids transformers
>>95918401TRO 3145 came out in 2013, art looks fine to me. Every era has some art and models that look like shit, dark age isn't different in that respect, but writing off the entire era by saying it's entirely shit is just absurd.
>>95918522Yet the unseen are fine?
>>95918557If you are the same guy that started with the dark age when you were eleven you are totally blinded by nostalgia. If you are not you have terminal contrarian brain.
My first exposure to Battletech was the Saturday morning cartoon. Grandma bought some of the toys for me. Then I found Battletech novels at used book stores and yard sales. I got MechWarrior 4 from Walmart for making good grades. Never even knew there was a tabletop game for a long time, we didn't have internet until I was in highschool. I got into the dark age game for awhile but even as a kid, knew the blind box bullshit was exploitative. And none of my friends gave a fuck about the game. I had to play it by myself. Will never forget the disappointment I felt pulling an agromech out of a booster pack.
>>95918588That doesn't even look like a mech. That's a furry doing samurai cosplay.
>>95911883 (OP)Honestly it's a little surprising nobody ever decided to use capitalist companies for colonization ala the Hudson Bay Company/East-India Trading Company/Russian-American company, or for that matter setting up free economic zones ala what Dengist China did.
>>95918629Not sure if this post was meant for this thread or the other space-themed one.
>>95918640Now post the IWM mini
>>95918629The Terran Alliance did, but the great houses have always been more interested in keeping their megacorporations at home. The Taurians and Marians are both the result of capitalist colonization, but it was private in both cases (with the Marians being a prospector who found space gold and then built a nation around it and the Taurians being a successful business tycoons wife liquidating the entire business empire to go found her own nation with blackjack and hookers). Some individual planets within a national territory were founded by and are run by corporations, but they're less tangled up with the government than something like the East India Company.
>>95918614All battlemechs look like people doing cardboard box gundam cosplay. That's the aesthetic.
>>95918651Maybe that's where Battletech really split from the real world. It takes place in a world where corporations never really took off, but instead companies remained in the hands of private families.
Friendly reminder, 55t 5/8/5's and 60t 5/8's both with max armor, a phys weapon, and a combination of srms+med lasers are the objectively best mechs you can field in all scenarios and everything that isn't those two is purely for flavor. If you want lrms, get cheapo lrm carriers.
Unless you wanna use experimental rules or c-large pulsers
>>95918629Wasn't that essentially what Hansa was?
Alright, I overexposed the shit out of them, so I had to nuke them in post to have them not look like a carnival, but I took a swing at some panel lines and I think they turned out nice. All the mediums except for my Chameleons are done. I'll probably hit the lights another night and the heavies and assaults all at once.
>>95918722Hansa was more of a primitive feudal pseudo merchant-aristocrat confederation
>>95918588Stupid ass upside down katana
I tried my hand at panel lining my dudes, got through all the mediums well enough. Photo isn't great, but it's better than the one I deleted where i deep fried the fuckers.
Probably hit the lights all in one pass and then do my assaults and heavies together. It's a bit dramatic up close but it looks awesome from table height.
>>95918673Considering how the Terran Hegemony formed I wonder if corporations kind of fell off by getting in bed with growing aristocratic powers. So we get a situation where corporations the predate space colonization mostly started to get in bed with the monarchies. Example being Nissan which moved to the Draconis Combine and the majority of productions go to it. While the ones formed after were from conception in bed with them. Defiance Industries for example being a corporation founded by the Lyrans where they just put a noble family in charge. So in general the corporate world is probably a bit more crazy in some ways while more structured in others. Noble family making the calls is gonna be a lot different from shareholders. Probably varies a lot more depending on the state as well, not to mention whatever mess it is in clan controlled territories.
>>95918732Project Phoenix Thud and many of the other PP mechs look like prototypes of the original design. I dont hate the Thud. The Marauder can fuck all the way off though.
>>95918557The Unseen are still the most iconic designs to this day despite being actually contracted from other IPs. The DA clusterfuck is artists not knowing what the fuck WizKids wanted and winging it.
>>95918780The big corporations are heavily intertwined with the government, I keep using it as an example, but LAW pretty much is the government when it comes to the production of battlemechs. When someone fucks up, LAW is the entity that steps in to correct (or "correct") them. The Coordinator tells the Kuritan mech manufacturers to jump and LAW tells them how high. LAW could probably deploy some parts of the military and intelligence apparatus on their own initiative. DI and IBMU don't seem to have as much national power as LAW, but they do have extensive local power up to and including being the entire planetary government of worlds that exclusively fuel or house their production lines.
Hey /btg/, currently in the process of starting up a local BT scene in my small town, and Iโm trying to come up with a sort of standardized series of intro games to guide new players into the game, both to teach them the concepts of the game and not totally overwhelm them, and wanted some feedback on how I did. The current pipeline is this:
1st game:
New player: Stock Wolverine 3/4
Me: Stock Shadow Hawk 3/4
Reasoning: In addition to teaching the basics of how mechs move, shoot, heat management, etc., both mechs are at the ideal movement speed of 5/8/5 to allow for teaching good positioning and movement. Both mechs have all the weapon types of ballistic, missile, and energy, allowing for familiarization with the weapon types, as well as bracketing fire and crit fishing. The Wolverine has a decided advantage, which will allow the newbie to win pretty easily with help from the veteran player.
(1/3)
>>959188622nd game
New player: Thunderbolt 5SS 3/4, Phoenix Hawk 1D 3/4, Stock Hunchback 3/4
Me: Stock Catapult 3/4, Stock Enforcer 3/4, Stock Blackjack 3/4
Reasoning: This team allows for more team play without overwhelming the newbie with a full lance. This also allows a new player to see the different roles battlemechs have (brawler for the Thud, Juggernaut for the Hunchback, Striker for the PHawk) the mechs can work together, but each has an assigned target itโs designed to go after (the Thunderbolt can bully the Blackjack, showing off itโs brawling, the Hunchback can go internal on any part of the Catapult save the CT, and can rush under its guns, making it a good โpickโ for the hunch, and the Enforcerโs terrible rear armor makes it very susceptible to getting flanked by the PHawk). This teaches the player about how to analyze your mech to see what role it should play in your force composition. I was also going to try and relate the mechs to DnD/video game classes to better define their roles: Thud is a tank, hunchie is a barbarian, and the PHawk is a rogue, etc. let the DnD sperging about how wrong that is commence

>>959188693rd game
New player: Stock Charger 4/3, Quickdraw 5A 4/4, Phoenix Hawk 1K 4/4, Stock Whitworth 3/4
Me: Stock Zeus 4/4, Griffin 1S 4/4, Stock Hatchetman 4/4, Stock Scorpion 3/5
Reasoning: this is more of a โrealโ game of BT which uses BV and shows how you might want to assign skills with said BV (both lists are 5K) It is also useful to show off the concept of variants with the new Phoenix Hawk, and melee with the Hatchetman and Charger. It also shows off some more niche things like melee weapons (Hatchetman), Quads (Scorpion), and smoke warheads (Griffin), and the over all list is a good example of faction based mechs (Kurita for the new player and Stiener for me)
Let me know if there are any major issues with these lists, and what you would do instead.

Hello again /btg/. I've got my first two lances painted. In the case of the Sword of Light lance, I stripped and repainted them, tried to apply some of the advice I received here as best I could. I think they turned out alright considering I'm new to this and painting in general. Thanks in advance for any feedback and critique. I look forward to growing as an artist. I'll post individual pics of each lance as well.
As I understand it from /btg/ all the Battletech novels that actually center around the major players of Battletech (your Steiners, Liaos, Kuritas, etcโฆ) tend to suck.
But can you recommend any exceptions to that?

The white factions are naturally completely void of any culture that could alienate or upset the core audience)
>>95924090Thanks. I'm a mercenary at heart, but Kurita and Davion are the two Great Houses I appreciate the most. I mainly chose to do Sword of Light and Davion Guards for my first two paint schemes because they are simple. The decals were a pain in the ass. The decals that fit on the Locust and Valkyrie are so tiny I couldn't tell what orientation was correct even with a maginfier.
>>95924124> Neither is there Social Science Fiction set inโฆWhy the fuck would I want to read that in a setting thatโs entire shtick is โgiant robot battles and sci-fi warfare in a space opera settingโ?

>>95923791Thurston's Jade Phoenix trilogy. Being the Vegeta Clan helps them not be as Sue-ish as the Wolf-centeic stories, as does as the central conceit of the story of a guy who basically gets shit and sabotaged by Clan society, and only gets appreciated after he's dead.
>>95924257Well it's a setting very much centered around giant robots and pan-humanistic imperialism being counter-cut by strongly entrenched local planetary cultures. They do try to at least nod to that in the novels.
The term generally means that the author will pay some additional attention to how this assume far-future society operates in a technical sense and how that shapes people's lives. Growing up under a OWG that's subject to giant robot invasions from outer space would produce interesting results, one would assume.
Also there are Jane Austen Zombie novels, I understand and there is a lot of Arthurian fiction that's literally knights fighting and falling in love and having to deal with their specific personal and their courtship target's hang-ups.

>Players will assume it's Clanner scum

โThe Dragon 1D was a field refit kit sourced primarily from Achernar BattleMechs and was well in line with the FedSun doctrine of simple but sturdy battlemech design. The 1D stripped out the LRM 10, and used the tonnage to upgrade the autocannon to a Federated Autocannon AC/10 fed with two tons of ammunition. The remaining tonnage was employed to house an extra heatsink and increase the armor to 12 tons, giving it near total protection. While the mech was light on weapons, what weapons it did have were quite powerful, and its well armored frame meant that it could take serious punishment, ensuring that those Dragons in Davion service remained so for long periods of timeโฆ
โ...The 1S was a more extensive refit kit from Coventry Metal Works, which sought to increase firepower as well as to be appealing to the merc market as well as regular troops. The troublesome missile launcher was replaced with the Lyransโs own chest mounted missile system, the Shannon Six Shooter SRM-6 found in the Commando. The AC/5 was exchanged for a non muntion depended system in the Thunderbolt A5M Large Laser. In addition to a second Medium Laser in the left arm, the 1S had 6 extra heat sinks to better handle the heat load. In addition to being rolled out to regular units, this variant was commonly seen among Lyran mercenaries as an alternate form of payment. However, it had a somewhat negative reputation, as less scrupulous Lyran commanders would give the mercs the mech, but not the refit kit, which the mercenaries would have to buy themselves. While rare, it caused enough of a stir in the merc community to cause the phrase โget the right Dragonโ to become commonplace as a term for ensuring proper forms payment.โ

I tend not to.
I kinda figure I already am putting enough brainpower into keeping all the vanilla rules and normal mech operations stuff straight in my head that I really donโt want to commit more to tracking weird special rules that either have no effect in-game or are extremely niche or minor in nature for each and every mech on the board.
I mean I need to leave at least SOME of my focus free for actual tactics.
>>95925156Quirks are a nice way to add depth to Introtech games. Them and special pilot abilities.
>>95925156For campaign games, absolutely.

>>95925132Would you believe me if I said that was entirely accidental, lol. My design process was "what doe the Lyrans and FedSuns have that would slot well on to a Dragon?" and came up with those designs. It's a similar weapons loadouts, but much better armor and heatsinking. So leaning into the fat medium role the Dragon always had, just a fat Wolvie instead of a fat Shad.
>>95925166It's the same on the RT of the 1N, only you'll run out of ammo faster with the 1D.
>>95925127Fuck you, it's got better armor, and it can fire everything (even the butt laser) and be heat neutral.
>>95925156In an IntroTech campaign game? Sure. It can be a good way to add spice to a limited mech roster and make the mech feel more like yours. Outside of that, fuck no. >>95925654But max armor heat neutral is the Davionman way. Don't hate the playa, hate the game. Also I literally made a non-heat neutral Dragon as part of the set.
I played the โTake Intactโ scenario from Instant Action with a buddy this afternoon. Since heโs new, I let him pick from a bunch of pre-designed and pre-painted mechs for the match, so he wouldnโt have to do any prep work. Fun scenario - his Gargoyle made a fun Prize mech to maneuver around, and since I designed his force to carry 3 UAC-20s, all his mechs were insanely threatening at brawl distance, which we reached very quickly. Unfortunately, his Ebon Jag and Stormcrow both suffered massive ammo explosions and were out of the game by turn 4. We called it there since we didnโt want to chase elementals the rest of the match.
One situation we ran into: if youโre carrying elementals on the Prize mech, you canโt exactly shoot at them (unless you swarm with elementals of your own) and since youโre not allowed to shoot the Prize, you could potentially just leave them on there and claim victory because the elementals are totally fresh, and thus the Salvage player hasnโt crippled all of the other units. We didnโt end up playing it out that way, but we considered that it could be exploited easily.
>>95925626>>95925665Well that seemed to put a stop to bottom and his pathetic samefagging, thanks anons!

>How do I roll my mech?Using the 3028 RAT which you can find from https://battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=1219.0
To roll your mech use a "dice+2d1000" in options without quotes. First number determines your weight. Second is what mech it is.
In this case cause its Marik vs Marik so the same distribution applies to both sides.
0-300 = Light
301-700 = Medium
701-925 = Heavy
926+ = Assault
I've also decided that the Duchy of Andurien can use not only the 3028 Marik RAT but also Magistracy of Canopus using above distribution just for some added options. If you are rolling for the Duchy of Andurien remember to cite which RAT you are using! This is also being set past 3035 so pay attention to the โ signs if you do use the Canopian RAT!

May mech God Bless you, /btg/. I came as fast as I could. Removing Bottom from a /btg/ thread is harder than remove the stank from a hunk of shit. We must use these tools that the great God has given us to fight Bottom: enjoyment of the hobby, apathy towards his posts, ignoring his gay tranny shit. These things strike fear into Bottom' heat. A decent paint job. Avoid conversation with Bottom anon. Bottom will ragebait, Bottom will post from socks, he will randomly bring up Nazism. If he gets really desperate he may begin to post pornography, or nudes.

Phoenix Hawk PXH-1: Dylan "Minute Man" Zephyr (3/4)
Dylan Zephyr was taught from a young age that he would inherit his family's ancestral mech. While possessing no extraordinary talent, he was sufficient. Not satisfied with being merely sufficient however, he practiced and trained regularly and the results paid off. After a surprise enemy attack one time in the night, Dylan managed to get up and into his mech far quicker than anyone hoped for and as a result the attackers were repelled before they could take advantage of their surprise. His ability to quickly react to a battle earned him the callsign of "Minute Man" that night, along with the respect of his peers.
>>95929235>Green 4/6Murphy "Mumphrey" Humphreys is a distant forgotten scion of House Humphreys. The 7th son of a 5th son of a 3rd cousin of a step-uncle by marriage twice removed of Dame Humphreys herself (allegedly), Mumphrey at first glance comes across as another story of nepotism but in reality is a shameful reminder of what inbreeding can do and what a family is willing to do to get rid of it via a convenient battlefield.
What's the correct play in this situation?

>>95929315Not from the people who gave him the callsign that night. From others though? I could imagine a fistfight being started over someone saying that. I picture Zephyr as a pretty serious guy. Not total autistic never smiles level of serious, but he takes himself and his mech seriously and expects others to do the same.
Andurian bros, I'm noticing a rather concerning tonnage disparity. Is it already over?
>>95929378>Generic SoldiermanNot even close! This guy is a dang good shot which should be really good for a Quickdraw, but this clearly came at the expense of his piloting abilities. Consider giving your guy an actual name. We are going for a more serious vibe for this one. Callsigns are never self selected. They're always given by others. Maybe his lancemates saw how fast and good of a shot he was and gave him the callsign "Blondie".

Are you a single merc striking out on your own? Worried that some landed gentry will take advantage of you? Join Murgatroyd Cavalry Contracting today! You'll have protection from unscrupulous house lords, flexible contract signings, and a band of brothers who will stick by you through thick and thin. You'll have something on your Resume should you ever decide to go your own way upon completion of service, with many mercs in the grandest of regiments claiming their humble beginnings in our faithful band. Should you join now and stay, you'll be sure to gain sonority and with it rank and pay. No more scrounging for contracts, for repairmen, for transport. Only glory, pay, and drinks for all! Join to day, and we shall go forth and pluck the purple Eagle of Marik!
This is in no way me trying to get control over Andurian players, and I won't be a dick and try and "give orders", I just think it's fun roleplay :)
How many mercs have their own jumpships?
>>95929796All of them. Argo style. Like Roguetech. Thousands of Argo style dropships are just everywhere in the Inner Sphere. They only function for mercs though.
>>95929796If you're not one of the big autism inducing super mercenary outfits, you probably don't own your own jumpships. Even a reasonably large company probably has dropships, but is reliant on getting jump service from contract to contract.
>>95929796Very few. If you're one of the regiment or bigger mercs, you might. Otherwise, you'd be reliant on negotiating for each jump.
>>95929796Not many. Dropships are "available" and relatively within reach for mid sized operations (especially if they're willing to take clunkers at a discount), but jumpships rarely change hands at all, and are almost never for sale. You can negotiate a long term agreement with an owner-operator though. Some jumpships are owned by their crews, and they might be up for indefinite employment as long as they get their cut. Still very expensive, but not impossible.
>>95929796Depends on whether you follow the merc creation rules or the game fluff. By fluff, under 2% of Merc commands own their own jumpships. Those who do are almost universally battalion sized or larger. If you go by the rules, you can acquire a jumpship about 30% of the time, which rises to about 60% if you don't fully own it outright.
What makes for good fluff and good gameplay are different things, though. Don't forget that.

Secondly, if no one engages, Murgatroyd's character arc doesn't become one about how he rebuilds his company, but about how he's a failure of a commander, the grand Colonel of himself and a fucking Mongoose.
And thirdly, if you are trying to "make me quit" you could at least have your jibes make sense. A non-sequitur about Princess doesn't give me the impression that I'm not wanted, it gives me the impression that you are ESL and/or retarded.
