The real reason is the team who made the game (Creative Studio 3 formerly Creative Business Unit 3) have never made any other game than FF14 before and thought they could give the single player mainline audience the same treatment they gave their MMO audience, that is strip everything out which makes an FF game an RPG and then insert MMO pacing fetch quests and somehow people would be happy.
