>Magic hit New York and in the span of a few years they can build talking robots, small turrets, and modern weaponry
In Deadlock magic has always existed. The malestrom (of which has occurred before) in 1899 just caused it to bleed out everywhere that it became so unlike our world in so many ways.
>The Patron is a key plot point, how the Patron carries out the "Heroes'" wishes is very important
In Roadside Picnic do you think the HOW the wish-making functions is instrumental to the story? No. If you need a class on how such a concept can be done read that book because you wouldn't be saying this stuff otherwise. Many stories have done wishmaking plots and almost none of them give an explantion to how it works and you're being beyond autistic to assert that Deadlock's writing is bad because it doesn't do this pointless and poor thing.
Geist's VN does not function as a VN and we only call it that because it's shorthand for whatever you can call a WIP half VN that you would see inbetween matches of a different game YouTube video. It think you've entirely misunderstood my point but I feel like I can only be so exhaustive.
I think you view writing too linearly and definitely too selectively. Frankly I think you're not much of an authority on writing or its critique and I think you should remedy this before asserting things beyond your own feelings.
