Hey /crt/, I've got a problem with a pair of powered speakers. They're hooked up alongside my CRT, and without a ground loop isolator, they cause visual noise in the form of wavy distortion lines crawling up the TV screen while it's on. The ground loop isolator solves this issue. I should also note that the visual distortion only happens when the speakers have their power cable plugged into them.
I've tried moving the speakers' power to different outlets in the room, but the issue persists to varying degrees without the ground loop isolator. The visual distortion strength does get noticeably lower when it's in a different wall outlet, but it's still there, so I'm still using the isolator.
Unfortunately, the isolator introduces quite a bit of buzzing noise. It's not noticeable when the speaker volume is low, but at higher volumes it becomes extremely noticeable. I'm using a VCR hooked up to my CRT via RF (as well as a few consoles hooked up to the VCR via RF), and the volume from the VCR is quite low, so I have to set my speaker volume quite high to compensate - which brings the buzzing noise into the mix.
Do you guys have any suggestions on how to solve this? Would running a preamp before the ground loop isolator be a good fix? i.e. CRT stereo RCA out -> preamp -> ground loop isolator -> speakers? Is there anything else I can try? The speakers are a set of Bose Companion 2 Series II that I picked up second hand for very cheap if that makes a difference. They're supposedly shielded but idk.
