Can't directly compare the sales of a traditional, home, exclusively physical media console with those of a hybrid console like the switch.
Sales of over 100 million units from the early to mid-2000s are far more impressive, considering how much less globalized the world was and how much less saturated with normies and social media influencers the video game console market was at that time.
The fact that, even by being physical media only console, the software sales of the PS2 is higher than those for the Switch, demonstrates the enormous and genuine influence that the PS2 had.
I also can't imagine the number of kids who destroyed their Nintendo Switchs, given the nature of portable consoles.
