The Soviet Union was a dystopian shithole that committed atrocities, don't get me wrong. But one can't help but notice the focus on unsavory aspects of the USSR in wartime, censorship, prison camps, or whatever is so obviously politically motivated and comes from one of one of two types of people.

>A: a libertarian or conservative who sees both Communism and Nazism as Socialism and uses both Soviet and Nazi brutality as proof we need free market capitalism and liberty slop, basically seeing the two as fundamentally the same
>B: a nazi sympathizer trying to whitewash nazism or someone trying to downplay German atrocities for whatever reason like clean Wehrmacht

There's been so much focus online and in academia about the Katyn forest massacre, Stalin moving various ethnicities around the USSR with internal deportations, gulags, dekulakization, Rape of Berlin. But the German equivalents of the same thing like Intelligenzaktion, slave labor, the Holocaust, Generalplan Ost, the Hunger plan, abductions of women in Eastern Europe who were forced to get raped in rape brothels for German soldiers were all unquestionably more brutal, ideological, and downright evil but you almost never see anyone speak about them. If you see someone online rattling off anting about bolsheviks and commissars, there is a 99% chance they are either a republican boomer or libertarian who hates "socialism" or a nazi trying to make the USSR seem as terrible as possible while totally ignoring Germany's crimes against humanity to rehabilitate Hitler and nazism.

The Soviet Union, as shitty as it was and yes a regime that did many bad things, can't compare in any way to the pure inhumanity of the Nazi one.
