Really? I've seen a fair number of things that either referenced or took superficial stuff from Berserk, but I've never read anything that made me go "hey, this reminds me a lot of Berserk"!

How can you tell if an author's experienced a real hardship or not? Not trying to start an argument, I just want to know. I've always looked at these kinds of games and wondered if the developers were drawing on their own experiences or just choosing to write about a difficult subject matter, and I never could tell if the dev fitted into one category or the other.
