/v/ - Predictions for Metal Gear Solid going foward?
Anonymous No.718821206
Well duh. They weren't doing the most faithful remake in history for shits and giggles, they were getting their sea legs by following a template very carefully. About the last thing I expect from them next time around is Metal Gear Solid 6. Per the Resi remakes (if nothing else), there's obviously a big giant audience that is interested in seeing fresh takes on classic games, especially a big portion of the audience who is (for whatever reason) intimidated out of playing games that are actually old. Which is especially funny to me in the context of MGS3, because surely, there are millions of people who are like "finally I can get into this series now" and will be doing so with a game that is nearly EXACTLY the same as its 20 year old counterpart, sans a very small suite of QOL changes. One thing I am wondering about Delta--I saw that there's a codec menu that can be brought up in-game now. Does that codec calls can happen while playing? Because I love that as an idea. I want to experience all of the codec silliness but I don't have the patience anymore to completely freeze the experience to do it still, for the most part.

As for what's next: Master Collection Vol 2 in 2026 or maybe early 2027. The port work on MGS4 is likely already going on but it's not going to be nearly as easy as clumsily shitting out the HD ports of the previous entries that already existed, and a poorly emulated version of MGS1. I think the next "new" entry though will most likely be MGS1, because I think the team will still be too green around the gills to do MG or MG2. And modernizing Metal Gear Solid 1 should be done thoughtfully this time, which will mean altering some aspects about how the game works, and hopefully with more tact and common sense applied than in Twin Snakes. It'll certainly be more of a production though--unless they're using the Peter Jackson AI tools they won't be able to salvage that legacy VO, and using the Twin Snakes re-recordings would be a bad mistake.

Anon, both Death Stranding and DS2 are pretty much exactly like fucking TPP in terms of open world shit. Doesn't really bode well.

>I have no idea why mgs peacewalker was good maybe he was having a good day or on adderall or something
I think it's because he didn't take it too seriously, ironically enough. He had a breather after the clustefuck that was MGS4, he looked at the cold war-era ideologies and social events and just fucked around making the game for a portable system.

With 4 I doubt he deliberately made it shit, I think it's just karmic punishment for doing three games and making shit up as he went along - he didn't have ANY fucking plan for 1, 2, 3 and it caught up with him. His style at the time still relied on long cutscenes and he went way overboard with everything, it was always going to end that way.

GZ was a great teaser but V is just mind-bogglingly fucking shitty to me, V is the one I think where he maybe started with a plan but then after Konami started fucking with him he course corrected and just took one giant deliberate shit on a page and called it a script. I also think that somewhere around GZ/V is where he lost the ability to be interesting, farts huffing took over his brain, nobody could challenge him on shitty ideas and he became a full-on retard, spurred on by the industry and Geoff. The results are seen in Death Stranding.

But that's just my blog so maybe I'm completely wrong.
