When you get it, make sure to turn on airplane mode so Amazon doesn't nuke your loaded books. Also I suggest the paperwhite bc it has a way nicer/larger display that also changes warmth, and it's waterproof unlike the basic. Battery size isn't really a concern for both (12 vs 6 weeks) but the paperwhite is larger. It is a pain to convert everything to .mubi, so a Kobo might be better since I heard it supports pdf (some books are only available in pdf so Calibre can't convert).
In a general sense, I read much faster on the Kindle compared to a regular book, even if the latter has a nicer somatic quality. This likely comes down to font size customization and removal of book weight. Aside from this, the cost of acquisition for a new book becomes $0; you could use your laptop/phone, but the e-ink display is much nicer for sustained reading.
