Operating under the belief that all conflict is ultimately based on control of resources, if the spice is the only resource that is limited, surely in the long term liberating the spice would result in post scarcity harmony like in star trek. Even if that process takes milleniums. Hell aren't those witch ladies supposed to be the type of guys to play the millenium long game? At least it would be a better solution than just keeping mankind on edge forever over this single resource. Or perhaps I am being too naive in my assertion that even if resource scarcity was solved humans would not wage large scale warfare.
