If you couldn't comprehend that MoS was specifically the Superman for the 9/11 generation, you're brown. That's why it's dark and a little gritty in tone; the Snyder films are about persevering against cynicism and evil in the face of doubt, despair and disillusionment. These are the kids who grew up witnessing 9/11, the wars, and the Great Recession first hand. They were jaded and cynical and obsessed with "authentic"/distrustful of anything that didn't reflect the grey shades of real life. The icky-sticky-sweet blue boyscout was not the Superman they needed.
