Namely, if they are literally founded by the Emperor himself to pair with his super-special immortal golden boys, why are they all unaugmented females?
It makes no fucking sense on any level at this point.
If GW had decided on any of this from the start, we could have had not-marine sisters, augmented through biotechnology/biosorcery, to be a counterpart organisation to the Custodes. But they didn't, and the sisters weren't a counterpart organisation, they were a psyker collecting agency that got a battlefield promotion because of a few extenuating circumstances made them useful.
Now there's some bullshit about custode-sister marriages, and two halves of the same whole.
And yet despite all this, the custodes still just forget they even exist for 10,000 years until Grandpa Smurf wakes up and asks what happened to them.
It honestly feels like GW is just trying to make them nothing more then custodes pets rather then actually developing them into their own thing.
